Matt Settle

Founder & Managing Partner

Matt Settle is the Founder and Managing Partner of Third Space Capital and has over 18 years of experience investing in family- and founder-owned businesses.

Before founding Third Space Capital, Matt was a Managing Director at The Carlyle Group, where he was a founding member of the Carlyle Credit Opportunities Fund (“CCOF”). He was responsible for originating, structuring, and executing investments with a particular focus on media & entertainment and business and consumer services. During his tenure, Carlyle raised three successive funds under the CCOF platform totaling more than $12.5 billion between 2019 and 2024.

Prior to joining Carlyle, Matt was a Managing Director at Guggenheim Partners, where he worked for more than 9 years, helped scale the firm’s investment platform, develop new strategies, and oversaw investments in the technology, media, and telecommunications sectors. He began his career at MJX Asset Management, where he worked for 3 years.

Matt received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Business from New York University’s Stern School of Business, where he served as President of the NYU Parliamentary Debate team. Matt remains actively involved with NYU and currently advises MBA Candidates at the Stern School of Business by serving as an executive-in-residence.

Matt grew up in Sugar Hill, Georgia and currently lives in New York City with his dog, Duke, who is an 8-year-old mixed breed from Alabama. Matt is an avid hiker, enjoys adventure travel, and loves live music. He is also passionate about supporting young people in achieving their ambitions and serves on the board of Futures & Options, a non-profit organization supporting career development for underserved youth.
